Stanley Carroll presents new collection

A collection that reflects dramatically changing times

A key source for inspiration has been art.  In good times and bad, we can always find solace in art. For Stanley Carrol that manifests itself in a number of ways. We use high resolution digital printing of some of the great masterpieces and incorporate them in the garments. Works by artists such as Rembrandt, Hieronymus Bosch, Johannes Vermeer, Van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt are used in a way that exposes them to a potential new audience in a different context.  On a side note and for clarification; Stanley Carroll does not believe that fashion design in itself is an art form.

The new presentation of the line addresses some key factors for the world we live in today.

How we present our latest creations.
This is no time for runway shows! Given the technology available showcasing the latest creations can be done through photography or film.
The environmental impact of the garment industry.
It has long been a major concern on how fashion can have such a negative impact on the world in which we live.  What we do is absolutely no mass production.  Pieces are handcrafted and cut either in the studio or by individual home-based crafts people.
Materials can come from sources such as “deadstock” where we buy up left over fabric from major producers that generally would have been destined for the landfill.  We buy up vintage fabric lots left over in warehouses, used vintage Sari fabrics that are upcycled into new garments. All types of fabric that are given a new second life.
We limit wastage by creating “patchwork pieces where items from the cutting floor are recut to be created into new  pieces , although the process is time consuming, the reward is pieces that are one of a kind that have their own spirit.

Importantly overall is to create work that is timeless and trend proof ensuring that it can find a place in one’s wardrobe for years and years to come.

Reflecting also on the overall human environmental impact we have added cycling bags to our collection. Stanley himself has always be an avid year round cyclist (he does not drive), so the need to be able to carry ones shopping on the bike is imperative.  Therefore a range of panniers and messenger bags was created that are both practical but also in a spirit of distinct, unique pieces. It is worth noting that since their launch the reaction has been very positive in particular with about 80% of them sold are for international markets.
